How we "Grade" our Holds

The problem with holds...

Often times when you are buying climbing holds you are doing without touching them. Maybe you have seen them at the gym or friends wall.

In reality you really don't know what you are getting. Sometimes they are bigger, small, easier or harder than they looked in the photo.

We decided to grade our holds. On each product page you will see a chart of how we feel the holds align to grade ranges based on wall angle.

We also try to show the holds in action so you can get a true understanding of what you're getting.

Grade range break down

Based on our grade range you can expect to set problems with in these ranges if using that hold set for a crux section.

We give a range of Easy, Moderate, Hard, Very Hard and Not Recommended. We feel the breakdown is such as:

= v3 - v5
= v6 - v8
= v9 - v11
= v11+
= May not be usable at this angle for most people or not very fun.

We understand the huge flaw with give anything a subjective grade but, this is the best we have currently. If you want to understand what holds you are getting you can always measure what you have on your wall and make a comparison.
